The event signup route

Use a temporary email for event registration and keep post-event marketing on a separate address

From submitting your registration to receiving your entry code, map the email journey first, then decide whether to keep the route open after the event.

One confirmation is not the end

Event emails usually arrive in four waves

Your temporary email should cover the full event lifecycle, not just wait for the first welcome message.

01 / Registration

Confirm successful submission

Keep the registration number, subject, and organizer’s sender address, and verify that you entered the right email address.

02 / Verification

Complete email verification

Open the verification link promptly so a short-lived link does not expire before your mailbox does.

03 / Reminders

Wait for schedule changes

The online link, venue, or time may be updated again the day before the event.

One-time download

If you will not need further contact after getting the agenda or ticket, use a temporary email and switch addresses once you have verified the files.

Same-day online event

Keep it active for a few hours after the event ends to receive last-minute access details and replay notifications.

Multi-day conference

Changes may arrive each day, so extend it through the closing session; add extra time if you need post-event materials.

Ongoing community

If registration means joining an ongoing community, a pausable forwarding address is more reliable than a temporary one.

Four checks before registering

Check Why it matters Pass criteria If it fails
Will you need to recover the account? The event platform may require you to log in later A ticket alone is enough to attend Use a long-term email or alias
Time of the last email Determines how long the mailbox should remain active Can be estimated before the event ends Allow at least half a day of extra time
Attachments and links You may need to save them separately Downloaded and opens successfully Extend the mailbox before verifying
Marketing consent checkbox Reduces unnecessary follow-up emails Nonessential options are unchecked Switch addresses or pause the route after the event

When should you avoid a temporary email?

Do not use an address that will soon expire if the ticket or payment receipt is tied to the email, the organizer handles refunds by email, or you need long-term account recovery. Instead, create a dedicated forwarding address for the event to keep your real email private while retaining control.

For events requiring identity documents, medical information, or other sensitive materials, use a trusted long-term email and review the organizer’s privacy notice first.

What should you do after the event?

First save your tickets, certificates, replays, and any attachments you are legally required to keep, then confirm that no refund or feedback request is still pending. You can then change the temporary address or pause the event route from your dashboard.

If unrelated marketing emails continue, do not click suspicious unsubscribe links. Simply stop using the temporary address, or pause or delete the forwarding address.
